Child upbringing is one of the hardest tasks any parent can undertake and yet it is an automatic role that should be undertaken. Children are born with different characters and so it becomes hard to deal with them, especially when it comes to issues of temperaments. Never the less, parents, aunties, guardians, caretakers etc shouldn't watch their children fight all because they think they are just young. What begins during childhood can end up a huge conflict during adulthood
Instill discipline
Sparing the child doesn't amount to anything but a spoilt brat. If a child is hitting a sibling for no reason, or uttering abusive words, its not time to watch but utter a strong warning; put her on time out, she will feel it and realize it's bad, next time she will treat the sibling nicely.
Encourage sharing.
If it is a toy being fought for, allocate each one minutes to use. That kind of training teaches children that every body matters.
Talk to your children
Children sometimes need to be talked to like adults; tell your children that it is bad to fight, encourage them to love each other, tell them the dangers of fighting and the benefits of harmony, you will be surprised at how they will understand and peace will rain
Have rules in your home
A home is like an institution and institutions must have rules. Set rules in your home with corresponding punishments so that your children are aware of the effects of their actions.
Some of the rules can include
- No fighting
- Treat others the way you want to be treated
- Listen
- Be the sibling you wish you had
Teach your children to apologize. Saying sorry starts with the parent. If you made a promise to your child and didn't fulfil, saying sorry is very important. Your child will learn that when she offends someone, they have to say sorry. Apologizing creates harmony among children
Reduce points that cause conflicts
If children are fighting over who does house chores, make a chore chart. Each child will know when to work. if the fighting is about tidying up a shared bedroom, allocate each child a task. This way there will be no room for conflict.
Reward good behavior
Point out when the children are in good terms, appreciate them for it; this will encourage them to create more harmony with each other
Encourage positivity.
Children who always fight with each other have a habit of focusing on only the negative side of their siblings. Point out the positive side of each of them. At least they will learn that their siblings are not bad at all
Raising children is not an easy task, but with the above points, you get to keep the years going.
